To provide most reliable Ayurvedic and traditional healthcare services to the people of Sri Lanka

Create preventive and curative services for sustainable health development among the public based on the principles of Ayurveda life style.

The hospital is located adjacent to Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute.

Pandit G.P. Wickramarachchi established Gampaha Siddhayurveda Vidyalaya in 1929 and maintained the Vidyalaya at his own expenses and no fees were charged from the students even for accommodation. From its inception, patients were given residential healthcare facilities as part of educational activities of the Vidyalaya. However, Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Hospital was officially set up in 1984. After Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute was made affiliated to the University of Kelaniya, the hospital came under the purview of Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine effective from 27 February 2008.

The hospital management ensures that the hospital is properly equipped to treat the patients and provide the best training for students possible.

The hospital has a bed strength of over one hundred with 150 staff involved in patient care. It provides treatment to about 1000 inward patients and over hundred thousand out patients per year.

The hospital actively contributes in the development of Ayurveda practices in Sri Lanka and promote its healthcare strategies. It conducts common clinics on regular basis, special traditional clinics, consultations and provides a wide range of healthcare facilities.

The hospital is responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of secondary and tertiary specialist care and medical rehabilitation in certain identified fields of Ayurveda medicine. Since this is a Teaching Hospital, the hospital facilitates the clinical activities of both undergraduate and postgraduate scholars from Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute. The hospital is also a training center for the Intern Medical Officers of the Institute.

The teaching hospital has a commitment to research and is indeed a center for experimental, innovative and technically sophisticated services.

In addition to the University professorial units, the hospital runs an out patients department (OPD) and admits inpatients to wards of all major disciplines of Ayurveda. It also has a drug manufacturing unit to ensure safety and quality of drugs provided at the hospital.

Undergraduate and postgraduate scholars are exposed to a wide spectrum of medical conditions for which Ayurvedic treatment is sought by the public. They participate in bed-side interactive teaching sessions, ward rounds, ward classes and small group discussions and visit clinics.
