First International Symposium on Traditional Medicine


 

The First International Symposium on Traditional Medicine was held from 24th to 26th July 2014 at Kandy City Centre, Kandy, Sri Lanka, under the theme of “Traditional Medicine for Healthy Life”, in the presence of His Excellency the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka,  
Honarable Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The symposium was organized under the guidance of the Director of Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute, Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage. It was an excellent opportunity for Traditional Medical Practitioners and Ayurveda Researchers to present their papers at international level.

Around hundred traditional medical practitioners belonged to various fields of traditional medicine were participated in the symposium and many scholars both local and overseas participated in this grand academic event of the year. Amongst the personnel participated were Address by
Hon. Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Sunanda Maddumabandara, Vice Chancellor, University of Kelaniya, Heads of Departments and Lecturers and Executive staff of the Institute.

The most renowned Indian Ayurvedic Professors including Professor H.M.Chandola, Professor M. S. Baghel, Professor J.S.Tripati and many other Ayurvedic doctors from India too were present at the Symposium. The event was sponsored by Sri Lanka Science Foundation Institute.

During the symposium the Dr. Padmasiri Rajasekara felicific book was launched by Dr. H. B. K. AjithKumara,Ayurvedic Physician, North Central Province.

Also the website on "Centre for Taditional Knowledge" was launched. The symposium was conducted in two session; scientific session and traditional medicine session.

The symposium is one of the key point in academic events of GampahaWickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute. This year, it was organized under the theme of “Traditional Medicine forHealthy Life”, where a common platform was set to relevant researchers to share their experience and disseminate the new knowledge created in their research. Over 175 research papers were presented in this symposium, which in itself, is an obvious indication of the success of the event at international level.

End of each day special cultural events were organized; Bali shanti karma, Hath adiyashantikarma, kalasthebeema

The Institute extends its gratitude to all who contributed in fulfilling this objective.
